A Swampy Refuge
Guidon’s Hill is the ancient site of an outpost for the sea faring civilization of the Dynoran people. A strange culture of humans that revered the ocean and spent most of their life on enormous sailing ships, this outpost was a mooring field that served as one of the few places these people came onto the mainland. Ages ago the Dynoran’s disappeared, leaving their settlements behind. Time hasn’t been kind to the settlement on remote Guidon’s Hill, leaving mostly bare rock foundations and a few caches of waning magic items.
The island has not sat vacant, however. Groups of humanoids have occupied the place, fought for or been pushed into static territories. Now very dangerous to humans, the island is riddled along the shores with goblins, hobgoblins, lizardmen, and all sorts of non-human rabble. Deeper in the island is a range of mountains that ring an enormous volcano. The mountains are inhabited by giants, redcaps, and unusually sized normal creatures. There is an extensive mine network beneath the mountains that spirals inward to a young red dragon’s lair.
